Itâs heartbreaking to read such a first person account of something so terrible. I feel really bad for this 15-year-old boy who is so isolated, and such an âeasyâ victim. As a Hungarian woman, the book is very interesting for me to read. I think the small details of the dessert, food, and the balcony windows make a lot more visual sense to me than maybe to someone who hasnât grown up in Hungary, especially within this time. Extremely well-written. I can feel my own language despite reading in English. Proud of this award for us! Definitely not a comfortable read, despite the (currently) easy language. I wonder if the vocabulary difficulty will increase as we follow this boyâs growth into a man.

Not sure how I feel about all the social media advice. I get that it can be used well, if used well, but I think this didnât age great. Nowadays with the algorithm pushing certain types of content, itâs hard to really get consistently empowering, feminist information that helps you grow in your feed. At least for me, people either repeat the same videos they always make with a slightly changing formula or they have wonderful deep dives that get buried from the information overload

Heartbreaking memoir of the oldest sibling survivor of child abuse. Shari Franke has a strong voice that makes the reader stick to the pages. While itâs their personal journey, I found myself wondering if she published this book too soon. The demonization of her mother while describing her father as a saint seems to take away from his neglectful parenting. But at the same time, itâs a very clear and honest representation of Shariâs state of mind about what her childhood was like at the time of publishing. Wish her and her siblings all the safety and healing there is!

A 21-year-oldâs writing on intersectional feminism. Itâs a good starter for a teenager, but definitely not a lot of content for most people who are interested in the topic. Other people have said it better, that most of the book sounds like a written-out Instagram feed. There were some tangible lists of examples for things like various types of privilege, bad vs good apologies, and healthy vs unhealthy relationship patterns that I appreciated, but again, figured I out myself from self-work and therapy. If the topic feels intimating, this is an alright start, but there is better (less white and more experienced!) work out there. I got irritated occasionally on the moral superiority sounding language Given occasionally slipped into. It is something the author acknowledged they participated in.

âIf itâs not a âfuck yesâ, itâs a ânoâ
âA lot of people are reluctant to ask for consent because they feel like asking âkills the mood.â But you know what really kills the mood? Sexually assaulting someone. Taking a second to consider your partner and check that youâre both on the same page shows maturity, high levels of emotional intelligence, and respect for their boundaries.â

Feeling a bit repetitive. This might be from reading feminist work before this one. Could have used it when I was younger to start off!
