Something else I find odd is naming. There doesn’t seem to be a consistent name origin for characters. Some have some whacky names (Xaden) others have very boring names (Dylan). It feels more like the author just picked and chose, but for a world like this there would be less variety?

A surprisingly cozy horror story and a queer and botanical retelling of Frankenstein. It took me a little while to get into the story, but then I was hooked. The scenes are vibrant and fantastical (perhaps emphasis on the second: living in a greenhouse sounds magical until you think about the practicalities). There must have been so much research for this book, or the writer has an excellent bluff when it comes to the details of all the plants and the process of taxidermy. I liked the relationships between the characters, which were both sweet and tragic. The only thing that really did not need to be included was the weird sex scene towards the end; that one just felt weirdly forced in and really took me out of it. The ending after that was again sweet in a weird and creepy way. You do need to read this in a "vibes over plot/realism" kind of way though.

Pardon me while I follow everyone even minimally active in this forum...Inkheart has been my favorite book/series for about 15 years now, I must have reread it 10 times (and I'm currently doing another series reread!). It makes me really sad that it's not super well known outside of Germany, aside from the other members of the Inkworld discord server I've never met anyone else who has read it 😔 So I'm glad to see other people here who love the series as much as I do!
My question for you all: when did you first read Inkheart? Was this a childhood favorite? Or did you discover it as an adult? How have your impressions of the story changed over time?
(P.S. if you want to join us in the Inkworld discord server feel free to message me there @inkhearts and I will send the link xxx)

Little fun fact: I used to have 3 versions of this book because my mom kept buying it for me thinking I would love it... told her after she pointed it out in a store again that: 1) she had already gifted me this thrice before and 2) I actually didn't really like it (I was aging out of the genre 😅)

Have to admit that I did not reread this series for this "finished" status, but I read this so much when I was younger that I needed this on my digital bookshelf. One of my favourite series. Now I have to ask my mom where these books went. Fearing the worst...
