I think this is the first IPB book where I haven't rooted for the mated couple at all. M'tok had zero respect or understanding for Callie, and I can't even blame it on him being an "alien barbarian" because Vektal & co managed to give the women time, space and understanding as they came to terms with resonance. M'tok bullied, drugged and kidnapped Callie and his reasons for doing so were weaker than a cup of vending machine tea. Where are the noble, devoted aliens I know and love, Ruby?!
Also, the beginning was incredibly rushed. We weren't given any detail about M'tok and Callie in any of the other books, and it kinda felt like the writer was impatient to get to the kidnapping part. I would have liked to have seen more of their interactions leading up to this, even if they would have made my blood boil.
Not the greatest, but this whole universe has me in a chokehold đ¤Ł
