Part memoir, part analysis of the difference in American and French parenting standards. There are french parenting approaches that felt useful and others that seemed more restrictive and a product of French culture overall. Druckerman tries to remain objective but doesn't always achieve that. Overall I'm glad I read this but only found about half of it beneficial.

This book and series is objectively good. I just found my self not caring really throughout the whole story. Not sure if I just lost patience for the complexity of the politics and magic system or just wasn't the right time to read this.

Curious what yalls threshold is for considering a book as ‘read’ if you’re not fully reading it cover to cover.
I’m thinking mostly in terms of non-fiction where certain chapters or sections may not be in line with why you picked up the book. As an example, I’m reading Bringing up Bebe which was written by an American mother living in France detailing her observations in the differences in raising children in each country. It’s part memoir, part child sociology/psych theory and comparison, and I have been heavily skimming the memoir components because they don’t interest me much.
Would you consider the book as read if you just get what you want out of it? Or are you a purist where all words in the books need to be consumed to consider it read?

Nothing groundbreaking, but a fun little read when you just want aliens and video games and conspiracy theories

A love story that captures romantic love, familial love, love of passions and career, and love for humanity. My favorite TJR book.
Only issue was the strong "women need to prove we're like the men but better!" messaging and conversations in the first half. I've just read plenty of books where the feminist message was the same and focused on work achievements, and while not necessarily wrong or bad, just feels overdone

I do understand this imposter syndrome she is feeling and Maxim is definitely not helping. But I wish she had a little more confidence.
