Reading shortly after Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad

Wondering if anyone else has read these two "together" or as a comparision? It was recommended to me by someone on here as a better critique of colonialism than Joseph Conrads, so im really interested in seeing how the two compare. Would love to hear peoples thoughts about this, or get other suggestions within the same realm!!

What ebook reader do you prefer?

Tl;dr: dislike my kindle, love my kobo libra colour. What's your favorite ebook reader?

As a 30+ year long reader, I have read many, many physical books (I still buy them ๐Ÿ‘€), but in the past 5 or so years, I've gone ~50% digital, and I have tried various ebook readers.

I've had a Kindle for a few years and I like a lot of the exclusive authors/books....lots of good indie smut hehe. That's about it tbh ๐Ÿ˜‚ If you sideload your non-amazon books (I have over 2k! ๐Ÿซฃ) it's a nightmare to deal with. You have to change the format, can't organize your books on shelves or collections (not even using Calibre!!), the covers get messed up/go missing, and you couldn't update good reads (don't use it anymore so a moot point). Not to mention the fact that they can remove "your" books at anytime! I had a whole series I spent a lot of money on just dissappear with no recompense, no explanation... Just poof! ๐Ÿซฉ

After that fiasco, I got a Kobo ebook reader last November and I love it ๐Ÿ˜ it fixed everything I didn't like about my kindle, and then some. I can freely organize my sideloaded books into series and collections, I can get all the same functionality as native Kobo books, and Calibre is actually useful for beyond just uploading books! Oh, and NO ADS!! There's also detailed reading stats (per book and overall), seamless Overdrive integration (for library books), and (on the libra colour) physical buttons! And they haven't taken any of the books I've bought from them, even though a series I bought was removed from their listings ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

I still have my kindle (can't get books I bought off it because they use proprietary formats and wizardry that prevents you from doing so ๐Ÿ˜ž), but I exclusively use my libra colour and do not regret switching over

    gets off soapbox ๐Ÿ“ฆ

  • There are some books that should be added!

Off the top of my head:

Isabel Caรฑas... Vampires of El Norte, the Hacienda, the possession of Alba Diaz

The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi

White is for witching by Helen Oyeyemi

The whole VC Andrews catalog tbh ๐Ÿ˜‚

Same for Anne Rice, but notably her Mayfair witches series

Anyone have any other books to add?? ๐Ÿค”
