I swap books with my family, and then we get together and talk about them. We’re all very careful with each other’s books. I’ve also loaned books to my best friend, who also took care of them. But beyond that circle, I’m nervous about loaning books. I suppose I have to give people a chance to prove that they can be trusted, but it’s an uneasy feeling until I get the book back safely.

  • People borrowing your books

How do you guys feel about people borrowing your books? At first I didn't mind it. But my best friend proved to me that she can't be trusted around my books and her books period. She spit water all over two of my books and her own book she had the pages bent and ripped. Now I have trusts issues with people borrowing my books. (Especially because books are VERY expensive. I have over 1000 dollars worth of books on my shelf.)

I’ve read in my dreams. More typical, though, my brain will continue the story I was reading before going to bed. That happens to me a lot, especially if I had to stop when it got good.

  • Does anyone else read in their dreams?

Sometimes when I spend to much time reading on my kindle, I will have dreams of myself reading my dream.

The best way I can explain it is, I see my hands holding my kindle and hear my inner voice reading my dream. The weirdest part for me is that I also see the dream layered over it, like how I see the movie of a book in my head while I read. Oh, and the dreams are never from an actual book they really are just random dreams of myself of a stranger being read to me. I'm curious of anyone else reads in their dreams. Do you reread the book you read before you went to sleep? Do you read your favorite book? Do you read your dreams like me? What does it look like for you?

I think my favorite is A Tale of Two Cities. Carton is such a tragic figure who has my heart. That period in history always interested me, too. And I passionately hated Moby Dick. I would never have finished that snoozefest if it hadn’t been assigned reading. We had to keep a journal of our thoughts while reading and turn it in weekly, so I couldn’t even skip reading and pretend I did. It was a miserable experience that I’ve never forgotten almost 40 years later!

  • Classic lit: the good the bad and the ugly

What is your all time favorite classic you have read (dusty or modern)? [to me: objectively- the count of Monte cristo but subjectively- The amateur cracksman by EW Hornung]

But also what is your least favorite classic you’ve read? (Such as one you were made to read at school) [to me: probably gone with the wind as I never actually did finish that one despite it being a “required reading” twice 🫢 I tried I swear!]

And most importantly why are these your fav./least favorite?
