Romantic dramas exist, romantic fiction exist. A story with romantic elements and not HEA is not and cannot be a romance. That's why genres exist, they are classifications and to be able to classify something there are conventions and criteria that a book has to meet to fit on each genre. I'm so sick of this discussion, it keeps popping up every few months and it's so pointless.
Someone on Threads said that they want to change the romance genre and make something different... They want to end their romance book with a tragedy or without a HEA. And listen, a piece of advice, if you don't like romance, that's fine, BUT be careful because you can end up messing up your own book and/or your book may not find its audience because of that bad decision. Also, THE ROMANTIC TRAGEDY GENRE EXISTS, WHAT DO YOU THINK ROMEO AND JULIET IS????????
