A very refreshing take on Dracula lore (and groom), told from one of his brideās perspectives. I really appreciated and liked the choice of using the second person voice as the main narrative style ā feel like itās massively underutilized in fiction. In particular, this choice made the story feel more intimate and the emotions more vivid.
But the plot itself was just average, no particular twist or turn.

So far Iām loving the second person perspective!! Itās so rarely used in fiction and itās very refreshing to see!!

TLDR: If Guillermo Del Toro redid Hocus Pocus, it would be this book.
Definitely a fantastic atmospheric gothic spooky book ā itās not necessarily full on horror but kind of horror lite. The first third was a bit of a slow build-up, but when the pace picked upā¦.OH BOY IT PICKED UP AND SPINES WERE TINGLING.
I do love a spooky tale set in New England. The jumping POVs and different eras really reminded me of Bury Our Bones In the Midnight Soil by VE Schwab.
On a more serious note, there really should be some trigger warnings even though I predicted it happening, I feel like one particular plot line could be a major a dealbreaker for some peopleā¦.
In any case, I enjoyed it!

I would suggest adding Lucy Undying by Kiersten White to the list!! Supposed to be a𩸠sapphic vampire story of love and revenge𩸠featuring one of draculaās first victims š§
