A Love Song for Ricki Wilde started off slow for me, but it picked up over time. By the time I was halfway through the book I knew I could not rest before finishing it.
Itâs a very unique and sentimental love story. I havenât read a book with a plot like this one before. Perfect for romance readers looking for something a little different.
My favorite part of the story were the characters and the relationships built. The found family trope stood strong. I loved Miss Della, Tuesday, and their relationship with the FMC Ricki.
The historical piece was done so well and makes me want to read more books with nods to the Harlem Renaissance.
Iâm glad I finally picked this book up.

This is an honest review of an advance reader copy.
I was hooked on this book from the very beginning. If youâre a reader who loves an adventure, this one is for you. This book took me for a spin, and I kept having to force myself to put it down and return to real life.
Shanora Williams did an amazing job with the world-building and the details. I felt truly immersed in the story. I also love that she didnât spend too much time on background in the beginning. She gave it to us throughout the story, and I think that was a strategic choice on her part.
The relationships in this book were probably my favorite part. Of course I love seeing romance, but the sibling and sibling-like bonds stood out the most to me. As someone with many siblings, both given and chosen, there isnât much in this world I wouldnât do for them. Williams represented that beautifully.
I mentioned how descriptive Shanora was earlier, and not only was she descriptive with the setting but also with the characters. I loved every time she mentioned Zaira's hair. It wasn't in a passive way. It was intentional. She has kinks, she has curls, the little girl in me kept saying "she looks like me". The glasses added a cherry on top. Zaira reminded me so much of myself, it's crazy.
Overall, I really loved this book and cannot wait to read more from the author.
