Never Whistle at Night: An Indigenous Dark Fiction Anthology
Shane Hawk
I've noticed some reviews mention a lack of content warnings. I personally went into this book expecting that there would be horror themes and horrific themes considering it is a horror anthology by First Nations (American) peoples who have historically, and presently, been dispossessed, oppressed and abused. That said, the opening to Sundays was still extremely confronting. I went and had a look and there is no content warning, not even a general one, at the beginning of the ebook. I'm not sure if the hardcopy has one but it feels like a massive oversight.
The above aside, this was a really brilliant collection of stories. As with all anthologies, some stories were better than others, but the quailty across the board was really high. In fact, I've already purchased a hardcopy for my bookshelf.
I learnt a lot of things from this book as well. I'm not from North America so I had never heard of the "Trail of Tears" for instance. When I came across the phrase, I took time to google it and it sent me down a devastating and rage-inducing rabbit hole. I always love it when I come away from a book with a little more knowledge about the world I am living in.
I definitely recommend this book 👍🏻
Omg, massive TW for Sundays. If you have any SA trauma or if you may find it particularly hard to hear, skip this one!

The book fails to give any trigger warnings and Sundays definitely catches a lot of folks off-guard. 😥
