This is one of my favorite things I've read ever, though i do understand why people can be disappointed by this. For one, it's not a sapphic romance; there is a codependent almost romantic sapphic relationship that's central to the plot, but it's not a romance in the classical sense. This book is actually about the very real experience of having a toxic borderline homoerotic female friendship while growing up that shapes you as a person. And also about the nature of fairytales, broken promises, and what is a marriage, anyway?
