Woweeeee! They hurt me so bad. Why is it that every good lesbian book hurts? I don’t like smut much at all and there is so many that just hurt. I’m glad it ends in a better place than it started. It was such a realistic story of queer romance in adolescence. That actually makes it hurt worse though. I kept having to put this down cause it reminded me of when I was younger. Such nostalgia woven into every single page. Anyway, yeah ow. Thank you for the emotional pain, I guess?

From the provocative and challenging to the emotional and quiet, Japanese literary fiction tends to be nuanced, introspective, and minimalistic. These books contain layered cultural commentary and may lean on psychological, surreal, or fantastical elements to convey their message.

It’s that time of the week again!
What was everyone’s bookish highlight of this past week? Whether it was finishing a book, going to an event, completing a quest - anything you want!!
This past weekend I spent in Hay-on-Wye, which to anyone who doesn’t know is a town in Wales 🏴 & is the world’s first Book Town. It has about 40 bookshops, including the world’s largest secondhand bookshop. I had the most amazing time and it fulfilled a long awaited bookish dream of mine 🩷🩷📚

What is/are your favorite avatar option(s) other than the one you are currently using? (Also not counting the differently colored versions of the one you're currently using)
If I wasn't using the dragon, I would probably be using the blue croissant one! Or the lady knight with red hair.

Hey, guys... I've been wondering lately if you need to know at least a few basic pieces of information about the author of the book you are reading, or if you're more interested in the literary piece the author has written. I've been watching one book review on youtube and the book (2023 urban fantasy) is written by an author who works under a pseudonym, and it seems like nobody knows much about the author (not even the real name) and for some it's important to know at least something and others in the comments of the video were like: "I liked the book the author had written so what's the deal?" I can also say that if i am reading a classic literary piece, it's important for me to know the historical context and that includes the biography of the author (usually the biography is something that helps me to understand the book more). But to be honest, if i am reading contemporary fiction i usually don't really care about the author... maybe it depends on what kind of genre the book is. What do you think?

This book kinda annoyed me the whole time. I kept thinking it would be a certain kind of story and then it would shift. I would think they’d be happy and then another brick is thrown. Even at the end I was waiting for another brick. It was very depressing to me. The townsfolk were all hatefully malleable to the max. At one point they’d listen to the angels words about how wrong they are about their priest, then the next they’d hate both the angel and the priest. Don’t get me wrong, there are people like this in real life. When in a crowd you tend to pick up the energy of everyone around you. I just didn’t like how every. single. one. of. them. Was so quick to hate. I was also kinda annoyed that it was all aimed at Ilya. It felt very wattpad era. Oh no everyone’s picking on me, but look! A big strong handsome man will come save me. While also suffering alongside me. They also jumped into loving each other very fast for two people that found the other annoying. Anyway, this book was not my cup of tea, im quite sure other people will like this book more than I did.

I’ve seen so many people start this book and then immediately hate it. I really liked it. I knew going in what it was going to be and was excited. The whole book is essentially an older man narrating his life from boyhood, and on. It’s rather rambling at times but people do that! I ramble when I’m excited and drag when I’m bored. I did like the way it was written. I’m extremely curious about how the other characters actually feel because it’s all from kvothes perception. But otherwise I felt very chill reading this giant book.
