Rating this one is weird based on the given parameters. Reading about this topic is heartbreaking. “Enjoyment” to learn more about the atrocities - 0. “Characters” (Zionists and U.S. Government) - 0. “Plot” Genocide and ethnic cleansing of a people - 0. If I look at it in the literal sense. But I’m giving this book 5 stars across the board because I wish everyone to read it.
This book is incredibly well written. It takes us through the rise of zionism and the oppression of the Palestinian people chronologically, starting over 100 years ago. It delivers the information through historical facts, documents, quotes, as well as anecdotes from the author himself. It makes a clear distinction that to be pro-Palestine and anti-Zionist is NOT to be antisemitic, as many want to portray it. In fact, zionists used the global sentiment against antisemitism (especially post-WW2) to sway public perception of the political agenda that has been this conflict. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to learn more about the Israel-Palestine situation by learning about it’s history and causes, as opposed to jumping in at its current timeline. For reference, I consumed it via audiobook, and the narrator was very good and easy to follow.

It’s obviously well known how much the U.S. has played a hand in enabling and funding Israel’s eradication and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. However, reading about the timeline, players, and events, just makes me loathe the US Gov’t even more. It’s evident that time and time again, human lives are a minuscule price to pay for the financial and political gain of a capitalist regime.
