I have a six month old Kobo Clara that I have taken out of the house strictly only in cases that have a cover to protect the screen. The thing is, I hate folio cases with all my heart. The cover flipping and flopping everywhere (i need something to grab kobo better aka popsocket) and the urge to rip the cover off is huge.
I just got a e-book strap on Vinted and ofcrs it doesn't fit the case, only the naked Kobo. Does anyone keep their Kobo or other e-readers without any protection and how has it been?
I have a bad experience with Storytel e-reader years back, the screen broke while in my backpack, luckily I did get a replacement.

I’m currently listening to a book that has me thinking about where the line is for YA content. So I’m curious to hear all of your opinions.
Is it solely age of the characters that makes a book YA? At what point is it New Adult instead?
[edit 2: for the sake of it all, I’m not saying it has to be labeled New Adult. I mainly want to know when you think it’s no longer YA. Whether it’s labeled NA or simply adult makes no difference to me :) ]
My reading was never censored growing up and I do believe in education through reading so having diverse and difficult topics in books is very important, but I know not everyone agrees. Especially parents.
The book I’m listening to now includes cussing, post-alcoholism, marriage and quite a few make out sessions that while never becoming sex certainly don’t hide the arousal. The age of the characters is never explicitly said but it seems the FMC is 18 and MMC is 20. Generally, imo, it reads more like a new adult book than ya too. [edit: literally just reached a sex scene after writing this…]
All this to say I want your opinions. I’m sure they are diverse and across the board, but I still want to know. Where is the line between YA and New Adult/Adult fiction?

Today's question is simple and fun. It's another round of random sentences. Open the book nearest to you, flick to a random page. What is the first full sentence?

I always enjoy reading the author’s notes, especially at the end of historical romances and especially if they share the names of some of the nonfiction books they read while researching the novel. I am always excited to add those to my nonfiction TBR. Recently I learned about a book called Sister Sleuths about female detectives and investigators in the 19th century.
Do you all read the author’s notes?
What is the most interesting thing you have learned in or because of an author’s note?

Am I the only one who notices specific words throughout their reading? Not words you hate, just words you flag? For example, 'dais' seems to be used in almost every fantasy book. Or I always note when 'cerulean' is used regardless of genre.
In scientific writing I always notice the word 'paucity' because I had an advisor who used it in nearly every paper... So that one does lean a bit more towards hated words for me haha

A friend recently shared the CAWPILE* review system with me and I'm curious if anyone here is using that or something similar.
Also would love to know what your star ratings mean to you - mine are:
⭐️ Survived ⭐️⭐️ Tolerated ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Liked ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loved ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Reread worthy
Thankfully, I haven't had reason to use 1 or 2 often 😅
*(Expanding the acronym for anyone who needs it: Characters, Atmosphere, Writing, Plot, Intrigue, Logic, Enjoyment - you rate these areas from 1-10 then divide by 7 to land at a score - 10 feels like too big a scale for me so I use it with 1-5)
