Definitely was more of a team of amateur detectives story than a folklore horror. The ending and some of the prose were a bit clunky for me, but all in all, it was a very solid debut novel.

completed duologies for when a series is too much
my all time fave duologies that are complete because sometimes a series is too much commitment and a standalone isn’t enough

This is definitely giving more 'inexperienced detectives' more than horror. Finally got more into the forest and finally getting some creepy vibes.

It was very slow for me for the first 100ish pages, but I loved it in the last third of the book. But also the lack of communication between the two main characters did grind my gears at times.

Now I have been drawn in. Seeing more of the characters interact has really brought some life into this novel and the moments are very heartwarming. The pacing has definitely improved by this point.
