Okay so uh. This book? The most mid shit iāve ever read in my life. I literally read this book bc my friends were goofing about it/passing it around for everyone to read, but thereās barely even anything worth joking about. It was just..entirely bleh. The author really thought she was cooking with this one, but she wasnāt.

I hated every single character in this. They were all incredibly flat and lacked any real interesting qualities. There were three archetypes present: 1) gross aggressive man, 2) pathetic girl who had no real agency, by magical means or otherwise, and 3) antagonists who literally just went along with whatever the protag wanted from them. No charisma or reason to sympathize with ANY of these characters.
The sex scene at the end of this book was still somehow better written than literally any of the sex scenes in Quicksilver. However, I have also read far better Sonic the Hedgehog porn than what happened in this book. It was that horrendously bad. Whatās up with this obsession about not doing foreplay? And all the metaphorical language was just ridiculous (not just in the sex scene itself, but frankly, throughout the entire book). The authorās attempts at clever prose really just made me wince.
And the relationship pacing? Nonexistent. They get together, fuck, and get married in the span of two chapters, at the very end. These two characters literally had no chemistry despite the way Ripley INSISTED they were fated mates.
I didnāt buy this book, I borrowed it, but after finishing this book my first thought was, āI want a refund.ā š
