Marin Ireland is easily one of my top audiobook narrators, shes just so good at it.

I really loved this one, it doesn't shy away from the messy emotions and family dynamics following such a huge shake up. I thought too much time was spent on the "then" and not enough on "now," but it seemed nicely balanced once I finished. Tears were shed, the ending was beautifully written. Almost reminded me of the last episode of Girls - it didn't perfectly wrap up every storyline, it gave the key players a chance to just live such a raw experience. You get to see the character development through their managing of deep emotions. No one ended up perfectly fixed, but you know they're real and will continue on from the last page. Really well done.

I mostly enjoyed this as a revisited character study of Clytemnestra with some caveats. It felt a little long, dragged a bit between plot points (of which there were some pretty big ones). I have a hard time fully engrossing myself in a reimagined version of a familiar character. I have to take big leaps to get on the same page with some of these takes and that was a little hard to swallow. I took Latin for 6 years through middle and high school and spent a lot of time translating and picking through some of the classical literature of the time. This book may not have been exactly what I was looking for but it was enough to help reignite my love of these stories.
