I really liked the visual aesthetic of the location in the book. It felt like it was set in an undisclosed time and location and was giving Handmaids Tale vibes from the TV show. Storyline was quite choppy and not a seamless read, but I found it interesting how the author was inspired by true events of a mass poisoning. Ultimately an original storyline with interesting themes of love, rejection, betrayal and obsession.
I enjoyed the dynamic between the two protagonists and felt they were both well developed as individuals. Interesting comment on how we make assumptions about other people without knowing what's going on behind the scenes. Specifically really enjoyed the moment where one character was on holiday with her mother, the dynamics were spot on.
I felt the story was nothing new, it didn't feel original. However, I found the setting during the Troubles in Ireland interesting. I wanted to shake the main character at times and tell her to dump her lover, but sometimes love makes us do crazy things!
