  • Hopeful Books wanted

With the current news - and my current read - I have, once again, lost my faith in humanity a bit. While I know both good and bad exist and the line is often blurry and that we need to confront the terribly things in order to change them, I need a pick-me-up. I need to be reminded that hope and good people still exist. I need to be hugged by a book. I think maybe some of y'all feel the same way right now. So we can get up and be better people for a better world.

I do love fantasy (cozy and not-cozy alike), queer books and non-fiction, and I know quite a few books already (I even have a list about hopeful reads and one about community). But I need something new, something that reminds me that there is light and love and kindness.

So, please, hit me with your most hopeful, warm books that feel like a cup of hot chocolate sprinkled with love and courage.

Guys this book is long, and I've barely started it, and I'm pretty annoyed by the characters already. Can someone tell me if I should keep going??

It’s too much damn information!!!! I’m really enjoying this book but all the information is too much. I feel like it’s nothing then bam!!! 600 explanations about the cards… if I didn’t feel so lost I think I could enjoy this more. Anyone else? Or am I just a dumb ass?! Possible….

Sifting Sands (Blood of the Durit, #1)

    Angie Caedis

All Ren wants is to see another sunrise, but when you grow up with people cursing your very existence, that’s easier said than done. As someone touched by the gods, she keeps far from the cities and the dangers they pose, preferring to keep to the endless and isolating sands of the Jahaer Desert. She’s managed to keep the marks that identify her as a daemon out of sight for this long, but when her camp is raided, and her allies have fled, there’s nowhere left to hide.Captured and taken to the heartless city of Denheir, Ren has only one goal—survival. She’s never embraced her gift of sight, but now she might not have a choice. Face to face with the most notorious man on the Continent and his desire for the power coursing through her veins, Ren must submit to the fate the gods have dealt her or fight. Good thing she’s never been one to yield. With new threats at her back and old ones plaguing her dreams, Ren is thrust into a journey of self, survival, and new alliances as she tries to escape a life she never asked for. The future is murky, and though she’s spent her whole life running from her gift, she just might realize that true power is as inevitable as the gods themselves.

Mundane Magic: A Lazy Witch's Guide to Hacking Your Brain, Building a Daily Practice, and Getting Stuff Done

Mundane Magic: A Lazy Witch's Guide to Hacking Your Brain, Building a Daily Practice, and Getting Stuff Done

    Molly Donlan

Transform the mundane tasks of daily life into intentional moments of magical self-care, with spells, rituals, and exercises that work with your brain, not against it—from the co-host of the Demystify Magic podcast Are the dust bunnies and clutter in your house getting out of control? Do you put off cleaning your shower curtain or organizing your closet until you can’t ignore the mess anymore? Imagine turning these mundane chores into moments of magic, where sweeping the floor or folding laundry becomes an act of spiritual connection and enchantment. But how do we bridge the gap between the ordinary and the extraordinary? That’s where Mundane Magic comes in, to help you focus on the intention behind your actions and tap into everyday magic with simple rituals and mindful moments, like whipping together a coffee spell for abundance or clearing out the stagnant energy under your bed. Initially a skeptic herself, Molly Donlan’s journey took an unexpected turn when chronic hip pain led her to Reiki and the intersection of science and spirituality. She’s been where you are, overwhelmed by the weight of daily stress and household chores, but by injecting boring tasks with a sense of novelty and fun, she found magic practices that worked for her and her ADHD brain, rather than against it. Organized by rooms around the house and divided by the level of difficulty, Mundane Magic shares fun and actionable tips, exercises, spells, and rituals to create micro-moments of magic and motivation. You can organize your chores around the moon cycles to optimize cleansing and creativity, whip up an easy simmer pot for the motivation to tackle that pile of dirty dishes, or turn a minty shampoo into a spell for mental clarity. Mundane Magic offers a fun approach and empathetic support for productivity around the house and reclaiming joy and creativity in the process.

    The Beheading Game: A Novel

    The Beheading Game: A Novel

    Rebecca Lehmann

Disgraced. Beheaded. And out for revenge . . .We all know what happened to Henry VIII’s second wife, Anne Boleyn. But what if she woke up the day after her execution and took it upon herself to seek justice?“Nobody was surprised at Anne’s conviction. The world loves to put a woman in her place.”The Beheading Game begins in the hours after Anne Boleyn’s beheading, when she wakes to find herself unceremoniously in an arrow chest, her head wrapped in linen at her knees. Discarded by King Henry VIII for not being able to give him a male heir, reviled by Cromwell for being too smart for her own good, and executed based on trumped-up charges, Anne escapes the tower, sews her head back on, and sets out on a quest for vengeance.Traveling in the guise of a commoner, with the help of a prostitute, Anne navigates the London streets she never before walked and soon realizes how little she knew about life in the real world. If Kelly Link had teamed up with Hilary Mantel, the result might be The Beheading Game. An epic journey through the wilds of British royal history and a prescient reminder that “mouthy” women have always been punished, The Beheading Game finally allows one of history’s most maligned women a chance to tell her side of the story.

An Oath to the Winter Winds

An Oath to the Winter Winds

    L. N. Sefchik

What starts out as a quest for a friend's cure turns into so much more. Ever since the events at the watchtower, Sebastian cannot assuage his guilt over his best friend's fall to the Kingman's Curse. Desperate to escape the suffocating confines of the Vanis Aer Æther Guild, and find a solution against Colin's purgatorial state, he flees with Niamh and a group of boisterous explorers to the magical continent of Seda in the hope of a new start. But between a mishap with a cursed leyline, and misunderstanding a Titanian holiday, Sebastian cannot catch a break. Still, there may be a silver lining that grows a deep-rooted crush into the blossom of love. Niamh, on the other hand, is secretly struggling with her own feelings of inadequacy. After coming to terms that she is not cut out to be a mage, her reason for fleeing to Seda with her cousin's exploration guild transforms into a discovery that she was destined to walk a different path. With a new mentor and reinvigorated purpose, Niamh must learn what it means to surrender herself to both the spirits and her own heart. Together, they might have what it takes to save a beloved friend and face their intertwining destinies. An Oath to the Winter Winds is a slow burn fantasy romance great for readers who prefer big doses of medium-to-high-stakes plot that brings two friends intimately together with intention. This book can be read by itself, or as a supplemental standalone to the Carving Legacies series. The story does not end on a cliffhanger, instead it guides the reader to the next adventure if they choose to explore further. This book is intended for an audience aged 18+ for depictions of intimacy.
