i'm currently reading a book i'm heavily not interested in, but i don't make a habit of not finishing a series i already started, esp if i'm already in book 2.
so it made me wonder: what are your pettiest reasons why you dnf-ed a book?

Fellow readers. I wanted to know if there’s a convenient method to collect information and quotes from a book. I annotate books but then I don’t have a well organised system where I can keep all the information or beautiful lines as I want. I used to write them down but it’s very time consuming and even though I still do that sometimes but I can’t seem to maintain this. So I was hoping y’all can give me tips and suggestions. I mostly read physical books and pdfs(I also read random articles from basically anywhere). Thankyou in advance

I’m glad there is nobody around to hear how I am pronouncing these terms. Unfortunately French pronunciation isn’t my strong suit 🤣

Yeah, I am most definitely not the target audience of this book. I tried to force myself to get to chapter 5 for the promise that it gets better, but I don’t want to continue forcing myself through a book that I do not like whatsoever. Especially considering that it is an 800 page book.
Through the 2 and a half chapters I read, I was able to gather that this book will not get better for me. It’s not the case of it being the ‘start of the book syndrome’, I genuinely just don’t like it.
• I don’t like modern fantasy that involves technology. • It felt too much like teenage gossip for me, which was unbearable quite frankly. ’One, I think that It’s a hot name. And two, Reid is hot.’ no thank you.. This quote is what made me put the book down and hit dnf. • I don’t like the writing style overall, and I cannot enjoy a book if I do not like the writing style. • There was a whole lot of info dump that I immediately forgot about when I moved onto the next page. • The UK cover is created by generative ai, and it is hideous. It pains me to pick up this book and glance the ai cover. • I do not care for the characters we have been presented with, they’re already agitating me. • I just do not care for the story whatsoever.
So after thinking over all of the things that I don’t like about this book, I concluded that forcing myself through a few more chapters isn’t going to make me like the book any more. Also, forcing myself to continue will just make me more agitated, and in that case I will for sure not be enjoying the book any time soon.

Oh, somehow It’s getting even worse. 😫
I don’t know, I don’t think I can make it to the fifth chapter. So far, I hate everything about this book. I hate the writing style, I’m sick of seeing the word ‘hel’ being used almost every sentence, I’m sick of seeing a curse almost every sentence, I realised that I do not like alpha and omega wolf stuff whatsoever, I do not care for the main character’s at all, I don’t like the modern technology..
Should I try one more chapter or just dnf it at this point? 😭 I found myself more occupied with the sound of the wind outside than this book. WIND. Wind had me more entertained than this book. And I also just skipped past the last two pages of chapter 2 because I couldn’t handle another 2 minutes of reading this book.
Ohhh god I had been so, so wrong when I said that I had a gut feeling that I would love this book. It’s somehow worse than acotar. Though maybe that’s an unfair judgement to make when I’m only 2 chapters in. But I can’t remember the last time I suffered this much to get through a book after only 24 pages 💔

So far, the first chapter has been a really bad impression on this book for me.
There was a lot of info dump that I immediately forgot about as soon as I moved onto the next page. Whilst writing this, I can’t actually remember what happened in the first chapter.
Also did sarah change her writing style? I genuinely don’t remember her writing style being this bad. God I hated it and it is really hard to read, and I’m only 10 pages in so far.. 🫣
I’ll try another chapter later. If I still find it unreadable by chapter 2, for my own benefit I’m just doing to dnf it. I don’t want to force myself through an 800 page page book if I hate the writing style 😭
Maybe It’s too early to judge? maybe chapter 1 is just a universal experience of being bad? I don’t know, I don’t remember a single thing that I read. That was a whole lot of info dump.

I’ve had this book sat on my shelf for over a year now, It’s time I finally pick it up 👀
I’m excited to get back into the SJM universe! I’ll either start it today or tomorrow. I’ve read the blurb of this book and it sounds amazing! I have a feeling that I am going to really enjoy it.
