  • What's your favourite book so far this year?

We're now roughly halfway through this year, so I was wondering what your favourite read has been so far this year? My favourites are Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb, Red Rising by Pierce Brown, Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, and Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. I would really recommend all of these.

While the essays are fairly surface level, I love Hwang Bo-Reums writing style. Its so warm and smooth, and it feels like sitting down and having a long chat with her. Some essays I really enjoyed, like "Read Books to Overcome Despair" and "Read Books to Preserve Your Sense of Self". I found those to be contemplative and they made me pause while reading them. Some lines stuck out, like in "Read Books to Overcome Despair" she says "Life is like a pendulum swinging between utter despair and a reluctant acceptance of fate," (192). She's not overly positive, but it never comes off as nihilistic. Another thing I like is the amount of books and authors she quotes. While a lot of followup isn't particularly deep, its a great way to sample a lot of other books. This was an enjoyable read for me. I read it before bed each night, and it was super peaceful. I really liked "Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop", and these essays had a lot of the same concepts and themes presented in the former. If you enjoyed that you'll likely enjoy this as well.

  • LGBT manga recs

Hey all, I'm a big manga fan and would really appreciate some manga with college age and above LGBT+ people/relationships.

Would appreciate if it's about exploration of sexuality (whether it's sexual attraction, a kink, etc). I don't mind if it's mm, ff, trans focused, bi f/m, etc and I won't even be mad at straight recs (just would prefer LGBT+)

I just want it to be adults and no incest or minor/adult relationship. Please and thanks

  • "Whatcha Get?" Weekend

Ok hello I am starting a new thing, "Whatcha Get?" Weekend (posted Saturday or Sunday, idk), for sharing what books you got in the last week!

    • Did you check out a big stack from the library?
    • Did you visit a new LFL and find something exciting?
    • Did someone give you a book for your birthday?
    • Did you go splurge at the bookstore?
    • Did you stuff your Kindle?
    • Did you find a book in the dumpster?
    • ???

IT ALL COUNTS so tell me...whatcha get??? 👀

  • Escapism Book recs?

    Hi Boundlings!

I feel I've been reading too seriously lately (either too many litfics or reading books too seriously instead of just enjoying the story), so I need books to escape and unwind, but also get immersed in the world, yk? Any genre is fine, (romance, thriller, OH FANTASY, horror), but I prefer stories with chemistry (found family, relationships/emotional chemisty)

So yeah! Feel free to describe the books being recommended so I know what's going into. Have a nice evening!
