Once again Rachael Lippincott pulls through! I have yet to find better authors at romance than she and her wife Alyson. WHAT DO YALL PUT IN THESE PAGES. I never cry but somehow their books always have me blubbering with a stupid smile in the happiest way possible. Ten out of ten would recommend!
I read this book at an especially difficult time when my OCD was spiraling one of its worst spirals. And this book made me want to create my own list to hold onto.

It's the fall season and everyone on internet are posting about their thick and chunky tbr on almost every social media. Is it just me or all seems a little toooooo much to buy all your seasonal books now? I mean there are a lot of books that haven't even published yet! And if you add this one too people have over 20 books...?

I'm putting together a list based on recommended reads for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori - Māori Language Week 2025. The theme this year is "Ake ake ake - A forever language".
Its slow going as many of the books don't exist on Goodreads/ Importable links so the whole process is taking a while, but it got me thinking about other celebrations of indigenous languages.
P.S. You can read more about Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori here P.S.S If you have any suggested reading for the Te Wiki o Te Reo list I welcome your input!

Since September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, I thought I'd share a bit of information I discovered when looking into the magic that is non-resident library cards 😊
Unfortunately this information is only for my fellow US readers, but if you're outside the US I encourage you to look into whether there's anything similar available for you!
Current libraries I have found offer library cards to non-residents (unless noted, there is an annual fee for the card).
***EDIT: one_crazy_eliott let me know that Books Unbanned also has branches in Brooklyn, Boston, San Diego, and Los Angeles and you can apply for any/all of their cards here!

I passively read all of the time. I have read 60 something books this year and I could tell you the plots to maybe half of them. And Ive noticed that writing a review is really hard for me because I have a general feeling of the book and not specific feelings about the characters or plot.
I compare passively reading to putting a show on in the background. I know what's going on but im not really paying attention all that well. And im definitely not taking it all in.
I think this is partly due to my reading style. I dont really see the words on the page. I don't notice the grammar and writing style unless something is definitely wrong and trips me up. But other than that I watching the book play out.
The only time that I take the time to read is when it is written in a style that is harder to read. Like a classic. I notice the nuance of sentence structure and importance of punctuation. But a lot of the time I lose the magic of the story because I'm so bogged down by making the words make sense. Critical thinking do be hard.
It's like my critical thinking brain and imagination brain are in a battle for who controls the narrative. And one has a functioning memory and the other just calls out the window and hopes someone's listening.
Anyway this is all to say that im very intrigued by the Personal Curriculum trend going around. I think this a great way to read critically and really take in the books you choose to consume.
Also I think passively reading is fine for the most part unless you want to remember the book. Reading is entertainment and doesn't have to be critical. It can just be enjoyable. Anyway cheers. I'd love to hear your opinion on this subject and learn about your reading style.

My ex showed me the Mistborn series, but we broke up just after I finished the second volume. It's been a couple of months since then and it was an amicable breakup, but I still can't bring myself to read the third book since the story reminds me so much of him. Anyone here ever had the same problem? How did you deal with it?

I'm looking to script a youtube video about how queer experiences influence and inform horror--I've got a list of books to reference for it, but I want to know if anyone has any burning hot opinions about this idea.
