Why am I just now reading this book? It's so good! The us vs them mindset is still relevant all these years later. This might end up being a book I re-read annually.

So glad I re-read this as an adult since my memory was fuzzy from the last time I read this in high school. It's a heart wrenching story in such a short book. I would recommend revisiting this story if you haven't read it in a long time. I definitely think some of the subtle themes were lost on me as a teenager

What I really loved about this book was that myself and the other two people who were also reading this book all had different theories about the characters. None of us could prove if we were right or wrong by the end but we could present our points. You can interpret the narrator in so many different ways because they are unreliable. It reads like a mystery in a puzzle and as a reader anything could be a clue. I thought it was a super fun read.

I’ve never read any Percival Everette before but I am so pleased I bumped up this book on my TBR list! Best storytelling and the most brilliant characters. My jaw dropped and I audibly gasped at that moment (no spoilers!) and the last line was perfect. I will be recommending this to everyone I know.
