I enjoyed this, although it's likely the most predictable story I have read as an adult. It hits every beat that you expect, but the later chapters were still exciting even when it was delivering exactly what I knew it would. It works for what it is, though I did feel it was lacking in development. The locations are generally well-developed for the page count, but the relationship between the two characters as well as Yeva's relationship to her armor both flipped in a single chapter and that led to me not fully believing in either.

I want, I lack, I hunger.

Hungerstone was an immensely enjoyable book that pained me every time I had to put it down. If I didn't have a job and other responsibilities I genuinely could have sat and read this cover to cover without a break, I enjoyed every single page. Not only is it riveting, it's also well written, structured nicely, and the themes are developed enough to be compelling yet vague enough to relate to many different feelings of 'otherness'. For me, this was autism, and the only thing better than a lesbian vampire novel is a lesbian vampire novel with autistic themes.

Lenore has masked so extremely for so long that she has no identity. She acts how people want her to act, says what people want her to say, feels what people want her to feel. Whether or not you view Lenore as a potentially autistic character, this is true. I found this deeply relatable, and that the most urgent part of Lenore's life is to discover her authenticity, her thoughts and feelings and personality, is a call to action for all of us highly masking individuals out there. Who are we when we're not acting how we think other people want us to act?

I have been so foolish for so long. I have let life control me when I thought I was mastering it.

Writing this review a week and a half after finishing it and I'm still thinking about Cora. So much of this book left profound feelings within me!!

Deeply helpful in a number of ways, I truly feel the instruction given in this short little volume could change my life. I love reading about philosophy and religion and it's even more enjoyable when it's as practical and realistic as this. Adore!!!!

very cute and i had so much fun reading it w my gf but some of the chapters were way too short and it at times felt very choppy going from one chapter to the next. i would've enjoyed it more had it been more of a full fleshed story rather than short comics all put together, but i still loved it !!

If you’re reading this for a lesbian vampire story (what it’s characterised as online and through the cover of the edition I read) you are not going to get that just fyi. Beautiful art though. Definitely a thinker!

One of my favourite volumes thus far, containing some really exciting issues. I will say, though, that I do miss the colouring by Bill Crabtree—his pastels made the art feel really refreshing for the 2000s and I will always prefer less conventional palettes to the typical realistic shiny colour style. I think the writing of the female characters has possibly hit its lowest point in this volume, it felt very much 'I'm not like the other girls'-esque. The will-they won't-they love triangle just felt tiresome in my opinion and I don't like how differently Mark already treats Eve, who after... what? A few days? Gets multiple big, thoughtful dates, compared to Amber and Mark's burgermart and movie meetups.

I saw this on the shelf and couldn’t not buy it. Paranormal romances! Purple and pink art in gorgeous monochrome and duochrome colours, which is a favourite style of mine. I didn’t know anything about it, I’d never heard of EX.Mag before, but the concept of an anthology with a vampire on the front cover intrigued me immensely.

It starts out with story 1, the office fairy, which is about a production worker who is taken advantage of by her job, and an um… office fairy. The art was super cute but I just didn’t buy the romance aspect of this, it didn’t feel romantic at all. Not bad by any means but I wasn’t too invested.

Next is ex girlfriend, a fairly short story of a woman being haunted by her ex. This was a lot more morbid than I thought it was going to be and I found it a little upsetting, but the art! Simple in the best way and so fun at times.

A really strong story called return to sender came next, about a post-girl who finds a letter with no address. The romance in this was the best so far, really cute story about two people who love each other very much, separated by unfortunate circumstances. Really good art, really good story.

The fourth was a story called karate police written by 7 year old Yuna, and honestly I really appreciated it being in the middle here. I was big on writing as a kid and I love the ways kids write, so it was nice to have something amusing and simple that got straight down to business with the plot interspersed in this book.

Eros/Agape was a chapter of solely art, and it was gorgeous! Stunning to look at, I honestly can’t decide which page is my favourite. I wish more comics adopted the monochrome colouring style because it just looks fabulous.

Man in passing made me want to cry. It was so touching… it pulled on my heartstrings. It had such a unique art style and was a great combination of being cute and also kind of heartbreaking.

Lord. Occupational Hazard was an amazing story. I’m in awe. And also, I want more of it. Despite it being the longest story in the anthology, I am now addicted and need more. Kind of like our protagonist! Really interesting dynamics, cool monster designs and of course, gorgeous art being that it’s by Leslie Hung.

The penultimate story, our house, is by far the scariest. A house with a foot fetish doesn’t sound like something necessarily nightmare worthy but it definitely is. The art is funky and the story absolutely brings something new to the table where horror stories are concerned.

The last comic was a little 5 page story with no dialogue. Nice art though!

All in all I really enjoyed this. Occupational hazard was probably my favourite with return to sender coming in next. The art was really lovely in each and every story and now I want to get the other volumes!!!! That said. Very disappointed there were no vampire stories when there was a vampire on the cover :( vampires are top tier monsters.

Definitely the worst volume so far. I get that this was the 2000s but lord, a lot of the writing surrounding women in this series and particularly this volume is immature and cringe inducing to read at times. Still enjoying it though!
