āØļø I want to make new friends here and connect with people who love the same books I do. āØļø
If our tastes overlap by more than 20%, give me a follow, and Iāll follow back! If you like my book taste, feel free to follow me too. And if we donāt match, comment anyway so you can find your mutuals and make some new friends.
By the way, Iāll be checking out all your profiles (even if we don't match) because I love trying new genres, and being friends with you here will definitely push me to read more outside my comfort zone.
My favourite genre: cozy fantasy, grimdark fantasy, dystopia, middle grade, graphic novels, crime, thriller and sometimes romantasy if the romance is not as important as the worldbuilding.

Do author blurbs or endorsements on the front or back cover of a book influence you to read or not to read a book? Or do you not typically look at author blurbs or endorsements?
If you do look at author blurbs or endorsements, have there been any that you felt encapsulated what a reader should expect or that were well done? Or an author whose blurb/endorsements you find to typically help you find a new favorite read?
Personally, I have stopped looking at author blurbs/endorsements on covers since going into a book with preconceived expectations set by a different author in a sentence or two typically leads to a lower rating from me. However, I do follow some authors and their longer endorsement posts have influenced me to pick up books & will likely continue to do so.

Ok, absolutely not. I will not be supporting this book. I donāt even care if I get bullied off this app. This is not supporting mental health. I have so many hot takes with this book- BiPolar disorder is not a joke nor is it to be glamorized with ambition and going off meds. Hence the new meme āwhat if I loose my sparkle?ā This is a serious and persistent mental illness. For the love of god, donāt promote this book near me.

okay, i know we've discussed this before, but i'm currently trying to find some bookmarks that really SPEAK to me.
what do you guys like to use for bookmarks, and where do you get them? i love to use etsy, so if you have any shop recs, let me know! or if you make them yourself, i'd love to hear about that too!
for a little controversy: what do you guys think about the magnetic clip bookmarks? i personally don't like them, i've damaged pages before while using them. <//3 but my best friend loves 'em!

I can't be the only one who needs a little more whimsy in their life! What are your whimsical or romanticization bookish habits (or ones you want to implement)?
Do you match bookmarks to the vibe, make a reading nest, reserve books for certain seasons/weather, light special reading candles?
Drown me in your whimsical ideas so I can steal them for this suddenly very cold and dreary weekend!! š„¶š„¶

Iāve noticed weāve been cycling through the emojiās in the discover section, are there not enough book under other emojiās or is there a reason for this? I guess my question is basically how the emojis get picked lol. Does anyone know the answer?

We all know how fun is to take part on the readalongs, be on a high activity forum, get a badge, maybe even a sparkle one, then get congratulated on getting the badge, BUT, life gets in the way, family, work, school (any other activities you might have) and you find yourself leaving your tbr on the side reading starts to feel like a chore.
āØThis is your sign to not take part on everything if you feel like it's not working for youāØ, maybe you're a slow reader, maybe you like to take your time with a book, maybe you just have other books to read or things to do, it's okay to not have every badge available.
The badges, levels and challenges are not a metric for how good a reader you are, it's supposed to be a fun way to share your reads and engage with other people.
I send a hug if you've ever felt left out, or like your reading habits are not good enough š«
š I would like to hear from you what are the things you judge yourself by and later find out it really didn't matter?, I'll start: 𤔠setting a higher yearly reading challenge every year

Hey lovely people!
I'm starting up an informal LGBTQIA+ loan library for the kids in my local homeschool community and I'd really love some recommendations for fiction and non-fiction books that have been released in the last 5 years or so that include LGBTQIA+ themes and/or information.
Book recommendations (picture books, graphic novels, paperbacks) suitable for babies through to seventeen year olds welcome.
Thank you!

I'm wanting to make a post for a Non-Fiction book, serving as a kind of Public Service Announcement. And I want some feedback on my thoughts so far, & what the general consensus is for approaching the subject.
The book's title, subheading, blurb & cover reviews all portray it as fitting into the "Wonders of Nature, Natural History" types of categories, heavy on the wonder, with a standard modern warning to save the subjects. But the reality, once you read it, is actually near constant harrowing descriptions of the subjects being massacred by humans & other unpleasant human derived things happening to them. Over & over again. (There's more I can say about it, but I'll save it for the actual post.)
If it were a narrative driven type of Non-Fiction, I'd have no qualms marking it a Spoilers Post, maybe titled with a content warning of some kind. But it isn't, there's no plot, just information. So the discrepancy between cover & content seems like misrepresentation, rather than any sort of twist.
So, do you think it should be:
Do you have any feelings either way? Or general thoughts? If I do end up blurring it, I'll definitely add some form of Content Warning in the title regardless.
