I try to be as objective in my reviews as possible, but it’s going to be hard with this book because I loved it so much. 🥰 It’s definitely my favorite in the series thus far.
Kamet was the best POV character in the series so far, in my opinion, by a long shot. His voice was incredibly clear and even by the end of the first chapter I felt I had a sound grasp on who he was and why he made the choices he made. He also had thought patterns and beliefs that I thought well reflected his background and the world he lives in, even if those views don’t align with how people think today.
Different cultures coming into contact is something that’s relevant in this book and I think the confusion and lack of understanding that can result from that was also well done.
The plot isn’t anything intense or action-packed, but I think it was executed well. Nothing felt forced or contrived to me and I especially enjoyed the end when it picked up more!
So in summary, I don’t have any major complaints or nitpicks with this book at all, really. It’s definitely a new all-time favorite of mine!
I’ve seen quite a few posts since I’ve joined PB about forum etiquette, and one of the most prominent sentiments I’ve seen is to avoid making repeat posts. I agree with this idea and see why it’s important, but my reading preferences are going to make it difficult for me to put this into practice.
This is because I’m an extremely spoiler-averse reader. Seeing any spoiler, even a small one, will impact my enjoyment, as progressing through a book blind and discovering all it has to offer for myself is an important part of reading for me. This is a problem for checking if something I want to post is a repeat idea because percentages can vary so widely across different editions/formats of a book. If a forum post just has a percentage marker in the title, I won’t want to look at it until my own percentage is 5-10% higher than the post’s to be sure I avoid spoilers. There are some forum posts that include a chapter in the title, which solves my issue (thank you so much to everyone who does this!!), but unfortunately a lot of posts don’t include this.
So I’m at a bit of a loss for how to handle this. I don’t want to be that person who makes a bunch of repeat posts, but I also don’t want to run the risk of unintentionally coming across spoilers either. Participating in the forums has also been enhancing my reading experience, so I would rather not avoid the forums entirely. Does anyone have any tips for how to handle this dilemma I’m having??

I’ve experienced this before too and it is something I still struggle with. I read very slowly, much slower than a did as a child. I can’t compare to a large majority of people on this app in terms of how much I can read in a certain amount of time. What I keep telling myself to help myself feel better is “if you’re not going the maximum enjoyment you can out of a book, it’s not worth it. You don’t need to read faster”. I know I could force myself to read faster if I really wanted to, but I’d miss small details and wouldn’t feel as absorbed in the book. The quality of each reading experience is more important than the quantity of them.
hello pagebound!
i've been experiencing a lot of insecurity at the rate i read recently and it's causing some distress. i think this came from being behind on my reading goal and reading one book a month for a while 😭 tbf to myself, i have a full time job & go to grad school full time, but that still won't stop the "you aren't a real reader" demons!
does anyone have advice regarding this? ofc i would never ever say that to anyone else and i think any amount of reading is good! i apparently just disagree when it comes to myself 😭
thx in advance team & happy reading!!! <3
