hello pagebound!
i've been experiencing a lot of insecurity at the rate i read recently and it's causing some distress. i think this came from being behind on my reading goal and reading one book a month for a while đ tbf to myself, i have a full time job & go to grad school full time, but that still won't stop the "you aren't a real reader" demons!
does anyone have advice regarding this? ofc i would never ever say that to anyone else and i think any amount of reading is good! i apparently just disagree when it comes to myself đ
thx in advance team & happy reading!!! <3

oh man, i loved the first 70% of this book and then it went seriously downhill. the most disappointing part was how insanely rushed the ending was! i feel like this book would have been significantly better with maybe 75 more pages. i also really didn't like most of the characters, although i think they were written to be like that. i probably can name one or maybe two characters in this book i didn't hate. great writing though, ann leckie is does it again in this way.
also, in case you don't know the content warnings, they're pretty severe. tw: mass starvation, religious starvation, & cannibalism. i will add more as i think of them but i wasn't prepared for how bad especially the starvation aspect of this book was, it was very visceral

This is what the Scythedom was incapable of understanding. They were so focussed on the act of killing, they couldn't comprehend what went into the act of dying
In this world where death is no longer natural, processing a gleaning as the family left behind must be so difficult. I like that Citra gives everyone a month to process and make time for each other before their loved ones are taken
