We had to read a lot of mandatory literature (Dutch), which I hated and really threw me off reading for year. We always had a list you could choose from, but most of them were just super boring. There were a few I liked and really enjoyed, but I defenitely think the mandatory reading caused me to stop reading for a while. Right now I'm doing a Masters, and for my BA but also for my MA, I had to read a lot of literary fiction, or just idk books that were not for me. I still hate it. I had to read 1-2 books a week (and we had to participate in discussions and answer questions we had to send in, so I actually had to read them). It was/is exhausting. The last few years I started reading more, but whenever I have to read 1-2 books a week for my course, I barely can read my own books anymore. The mandatory ones bore me and exhaust me so much that whenever I have time left, I just scroll on my phone
