I love a good us vs. them story, and this really delivered. The greasers are just a group of boys who found family in each other and stuck together because they knew each other’s struggles, knew how to support each other. And the suffering and pain they felt was shown so realistically. You can’t help but feel a connection to these boys, who are just trying to make it through life the best way they know how.

I think my favorite thing about the entire book was how the trauma stuck with them. They didn’t get to just pretend these things never happened to them. They were shaped by the things they’d seen and done. It became a part of them.

    This was genuinely phenomenal.

I watched the film the other day so I knew what happened and I liked having the actors faces in my head as I read the book (honestly a lot of the cast was perfect).

The main thing that really makes this better than the movie and better than most books that have horrible situations, is that the author delves into the trauma of the events. No boy at age fourteen is coming out of all of that without emotional and mental damage.

I loved how the boys were written as it really showed how and why they all clung to each other and that even though they're rough and ready, they're so incredibly tender with each other. Most are not family but blood but they're definitely a part of Ponyboys family for sure.
