My Thorns For Your Roses

My Thorns For Your Roses

Kristen Argyres

True love takes many forms. As one of the few survivors of her generation, Lark wants to live a quiet, peaceful life. All she needs is a tolerable husband. On her 24th birthday, Lark offends the local faerie lord, the shapeshifter Tamlin, who punishes her with a rose rooted in her flesh. In her efforts to convince Tamlin to undo his handiwork, Lark visits the forest daily and discovers the breathtaking and terrifying wonders of his realm. Despite her pragmatic nature tugging her toward a mortal huntsman, Lark falls for Tamlin. After a near-fatal accident exposes Tamlin’s cruel deception, Lark moves to the capital to accept a marriage of convenience. Yet when she learns of Tamlin’s capture, Lark must choose whether to secure her future or risk it all to save the love of her life from his cannibal ex. -- MY THORNS FOR YOUR ROSES is a "Tam Lin" retelling written in the spirit of the Scottish faerie tale and folksong - for readers who enjoyed the fae in Heather Fawcett's EMILY WILDE series, retellings like Naomi Novik's SPINNING SILVER, and the complicated family dynamics of Kell Woods' AFTER THE FOREST and UPON A STARLIT TIDE. This is ridiculous and silly but also very charming. It's a bit predictable, but that is made up for with its charm and eye-catching illustrations. It ties up a bit too neat and perfect, but sometimes we just need a win and a happy ending. Overall, this was quite fun, and I'd certainly checkout more by the creator.

I expected interesting lore and a fun glimpse into cultures and creatures that I've encountered in various D&D games I've played. I expected the cool factor of learning more about one of the most popular Forgotten Realms' characters. And yes, I got all of this. But I also got captivating political intrigue and insight into the heart of this famous character. I didn't expect such heart in this story, but I truly rooted for Drizzt and was heartbroken at the things he had to endure and at Drow society as a whole.

  • Question for audiobooks listeners

Does anyone have a recommendation for an audiobook that sounds nice? I tried to listen to one before but I didn’t like voice actor and with university starting to become more demanding I feel like it’s easier for me to listen to some audiobooks cuz idw get in a slump. I don’t mind any genres. But for those who read audiobooks, do you have any first recommendations?

Oof, so many of these characters are problematic (much like the original tales of the Pantheon), but they are a train wreck I can't look away from. And Persephone is so damn cute, I can't help but root for her! I can also appreciate any writer who can make me feel bad for the "villain" like she did in this one. I'm a sucker for a villain with layers.

At this point, it should come as no surprise that I love this book. Sanderson just knows how to entertain me. If you loved the first trilogy, there will be plenty of things you'll recognize and love, while having a fresh, new way to view Allomancy. Allomancy in a steampunk world is just cool, and makes for some amazing action scenes.

This book was so good! I don't read much mystery because it usually doesn't keep my focus, but I could not stop reading this book. It's a perfect blend of creeping gothic horror, heart-pounding thriller, and a twisty, mind-bending game/mystery to solve. I'm already anticipating the author's next work because if this was a debut, I can't wait to see what's next!

This was a cute and enjoyable listen. It was a bit predictable and forced at times, but it was funny enough to make up for it. I wasn't too keen on the ending since it felt a bit too perfect and rushed, but overall, I'm glad I read it.

This is so good, but also poor Persephone. Definitely check your TW. The art is gorgeous though, and I'm thoroughly rooting for Persephone. And I have a few characters that I want to throttle senseless, so I guess that means well done to the author for making me feel things! Lol

I absolutely adored this book! It is sweet and charming, with plenty of small town antics that kept me laughing, and the narrators were fabulous! And with the added dash of romance, and this was a perfect listen.

This book was so much fun! I'm not much of a mystery reader, typically, but the blend of romance and an enjoyable mystery to solve kept me captivated. I immediately went to see what else my library has by the author!
