Not trying to be a buzz kill but the premise that Alix cant ever go to college is a big fat lie. Being in foster care sucks so much BUT there are actually systems in place to help transition foster youth into independent living! It’s not perfect but anyone that was in foster case after the age of 15 or who ages out in the system can get FREE COLLEGE TUITION. Almost all community colleges and public universities have an entire resource department dedicated to former foster youth. You literally qualify for a full ride to public schools because you were in foster care. There are entire staffs dedicated to helping former foster youth figure out their housing, their medical & dental health, extra tutors, extra funding for counseling and books and food.
I don’t know anything about this author and I just started this book. Not trying to be a hater but it’s so irresponsible to present bad information that could really harm a young person who doesn’t know any better just for a gd plot point.
