Another peaceful romance from Thea Hawthorne.
I loved the writing (gorgeous imagery and atmosphere!). I cherished this as another foray into Esk.
The romance needed more development between initial attraction and first moves, and perhaps before the big thing at the end. I am comparing this romance to Hawthorne’s other work — and recognise this was her debut — so I know this is filtering my perception. Stormcaught, her latest, is definitely my favourite and objectively best so far.
I did like the romance, though, once established. (Not that I actively disliked it at all, it just wasn’t why I kept picking up the novella.) The couple complement each other really well. Artemisia was a wonderful flirt. And the (fade-to-black) sexy stuff was very hot!
I can see this book being a good starting point for new Esk readers, at least from a worldbuilding pov, if not a show of Hawthorne’s skill with romance. Though, for those wondering, you can really start anywhere and you’ll be fine.
I’m very curious and excited to continue my journey in Esk!

Me searching for the “the greatest love story of all time” Warner Bros is talking about 😃
Anyways, I’ve had Kate Bush’s song “Wuthering Heights” stuck in my head the whole time I’ve been reading this. It’s haunting me, lol.

I was not aware how loyal the show is to the book. Probably the most loyal romance adaptation I've seen so far.
