Sifting Sands (Blood of the Durit, #1)

    Angie Caedis

All Ren wants is to see another sunrise, but when you grow up with people cursing your very existence, that’s easier said than done. As someone touched by the gods, she keeps far from the cities and the dangers they pose, preferring to keep to the endless and isolating sands of the Jahaer Desert. She’s managed to keep the marks that identify her as a daemon out of sight for this long, but when her camp is raided, and her allies have fled, there’s nowhere left to hide.Captured and taken to the heartless city of Denheir, Ren has only one goal—survival. She’s never embraced her gift of sight, but now she might not have a choice. Face to face with the most notorious man on the Continent and his desire for the power coursing through her veins, Ren must submit to the fate the gods have dealt her or fight. Good thing she’s never been one to yield. With new threats at her back and old ones plaguing her dreams, Ren is thrust into a journey of self, survival, and new alliances as she tries to escape a life she never asked for. The future is murky, and though she’s spent her whole life running from her gift, she just might realize that true power is as inevitable as the gods themselves.

  • looking for tips on literature curriculum.

    hello!

lately, i've been thinking about making a personal literature curriculum for myself since i've noticed that my knowledge beyond basic analytic skills is lacking. especially since i come from a non-english speaking country where the main point of our english classes was to teach us the language rather than teach us any analysis or history, etc.

since this is a place full of avid readers, i thought this'll be my best bet to gather some sources and starting points for my personal syllabus. for the main part, the first act of this curriculum would be based on english literature. what is the best point to start for this? should i go with a particular uni's syllabus and tweak it? any and all tips are appreciated!

help me, oh my fellow nerds 💜

  • Idw see this in books?

What’s your “ i don’t want to ever see this in my books”? For me I despise a miscommunication trope that’s written just to fill the plot when it’s a whole grown adult relationship. I also hate when the mmc gives the fmc a random cringy nickname. In fantasy I hate when books describe their fmc ( who apparently can take a whole kingdom down with her pinky finger) as someone with a body of a child like make it make sense?

  • Making new friends

✨️ I want to make new friends here and connect with people who love the same books I do. ✨️

If our tastes overlap by more than 20%, give me a follow, and I’ll follow back! If you like my book taste, feel free to follow me too. And if we don’t match, comment anyway so you can find your mutuals and make some new friends.

By the way, I’ll be checking out all your profiles (even if we don't match) because I love trying new genres, and being friends with you here will definitely push me to read more outside my comfort zone.

My favourite genre: cozy fantasy, grimdark fantasy, dystopia, middle grade, graphic novels, crime, thriller and sometimes romantasy if the romance is not as important as the worldbuilding.

  • Light hearted book

What’s your favorite light hearted book? It doesn’t matter what genre but a book you consider a comfort one of yours to read and just cheer up? For me honestly comfort books are really depressing ones where I can relate to the characters so I’m trying to find others that can cheer me up while still being interesting

  • What is a book that you were excited to read but ended up being really disappointing?

As someone with a never-ending tbr, I know there are some books on my list that I’ve been so excited to get to and they end up being absolutely amazing, and then sometimes end up being absolute duds. What are some books that you were excited to read and then ended up being disappointed by?

  • Adaptations

Hello all! Since it's on lots of readers minds recently (or at least it's been on mine), what is your favourite page to screen adaptation? Or what's your least favourite? My favourite by far is the Hunger Games movies. They've been some of my favourite movies period since I was but a wee lad✨️

  • Poetry books?:)

Hello, friends!! I absolutely love writing poetry, but realize I don’t have many favorite poets (Mary Oliver, Emily Dickinson, Frost, Plath, Poe.) I want to expand!! But it’s always so overwhelming.

Who are your favorites to read- and why? tia 🖤🌿

  • Question for audiobooks listeners

Does anyone have a recommendation for an audiobook that sounds nice? I tried to listen to one before but I didn’t like voice actor and with university starting to become more demanding I feel like it’s easier for me to listen to some audiobooks cuz idw get in a slump. I don’t mind any genres. But for those who read audiobooks, do you have any first recommendations?
