I fear I read this book too late to enjoy it. I am so completely disenchanted with any colonial power that I just can’t bring myself to be giddy and hopeful about the first son and spare prince falling in love.

I love the characters. I still love Casey McQuiston. Unfortunately, so much has changed since this was written in 2019 that the tone is completely off.
