I loved Angela Carterās proseā so precise and intriguing. I can visualize every scene through the words. Here are some examples from The Tigerās Bride:
āMy tear-beslobbered father wants a rose to show that I forgive him.ā - tear-beslobbered is such a fantastic descriptor!
āHis eyes were moist and brown, his face seamed with the innocent cunning of an ancient baby.ā I love this line; I can picture those medieval depictions of baby Jesus, how eerie they are because of their judgmental stare. (Also, knowing that they often painted Jesus that way because they wanted to depict him as āall-knowing miniature adultā even as a baby.)
āMy spite was sharp as broken glass.ā This is beautiful and devestating and so, so clear.
Chefās kiss to Carterās writing. It is so engaging, almost tactile. I love it!
