An introduction to the Classics, these books are part of the cultural zeitgeist or the 'canon' that many would recognize. Look for more niche titles in later Starter Pack volumes.

So far this seems like a really cool book! It's giving me order of the pure moon reflected in water vibes and psalm for the wild built kind of vibes which were both books that were shorter but I enjoyed. Hoping the plot is more full in this one since its longer

okay.... listen before I get destroyed I understand some people see Emily as a character that might have autism, and while I understand why some people believe that, I just think she is just not good rep (I am not diagnosed, yet I have read and heard people that have autism agree with me) , that being said I am just a person with an opinion, if you have autism and relate to Emily, that is great and this is in no way an attack on you.
My opinion of her is that some of the things she says and thinks are giving more the vibe of " judgmental academic archetype who is socially unaware and knows what they say might come off as mean, but doesn't care because "science first" mentality and because they are doing academic work", as well as a bit of "I'm not like other girls, they all fall for Wendell's charms and enjoy talking to people, but I have a messy bun and enjoy books and eating instead, but I also skip breakfast and don't eat much". Am I shit at social situations? Some of the time, yes. Do I prefer to eat in silence alone without human interaction? Also yes. My problem with Emily is that it feels like she comes off as more judgmental than simply "I'm bad at socializing and enjoy solitude". If you need more clarification I will gladly do so, English is my second language and my brain is not exactly working at 100% right now lol
I also have my issues with the plot, but just like with Emily's characterization, I can't say much without spoilers.
I have just heard about the changeling arc and how it can be problematic, I will do a bit more research, but this book is shaping up to be a DNF. I will try to reach 50% at least before coming to a decision.

One of my reading goals for 2026 is to read more translated books. What are some underrated translated books that you love? I'm open to any genre. Just trying to branch out and explore different authors!
