Rape-by-deception at pages 65-68. I hate hate hate doppelgänger tropes, but going here with it makes me sick to read. Real squick territory for me. So I guess this is a trigger warning.

There are things you can do in first person present tense, and there are things you cannot do. This is the latter.
This was awful in every way. Only listened until the end because it was a book club book and ooooooohhhhhh boy. Bad to the last drop. Also, I honestly cannot believe it was written by a woman.

Reasonably well written but just a basic ghost story. Nothing really explained and no bigger point. The narrator’s lusting after his female colleagues (who he barely knows) from almost page one is off putting, to say the least.

The concept behind this book was really interesting, but it doesn’t rise much beyond concept. The plot (beyond the concept) is very basic. The prose is not strong.
Edit: listened to the audio book, and the narration is no great shakes, either. Plus the weird accents.

Fine but the story is pretty basic and the character don’t have a lot of dimension.

Jason’s behavior since arriving (primarily running) seems to be driven solely by Being a Character in a Thriller. ‘I’m injured, confused, don’t know what’s going on; I’m surrounded by people who seem to like me and know more than I do. I need to execute a dramatic escape jumping out of a bathroom window!’

Um, i know this book is a thriller sci-fi, and so far the thriller part has been the most prominent, and it made me realize i don't like thriller that much 🥲 i like science but so far i didn't see it and i'm less and less feeling like reading it, i feel like he's been running away or walking for idk how many pages, i know it's to collect informations and figure out what's happening but i'm not that much into it, what should i do? Is the thriller part gonna keep being strong? Is Recursion by the same author more on the science part of is it also very thriller? How about wayward pines?
