  • Audiobooks : breaking the fourth wall?

I've tried to listen to audiobooks several times and it never worked for me, but today I've started listening to "Everyone This Christmas Has A Secret" (by Benjamin Stevenson) and I didn't feel "weird" (not the right word but the closest I can think of) listening to it. I've thought about it and I think it's because the narrator speaks to the listener.

I'm not talking about breaking the fourth wall occasionally or for a joke or something, I mean the narrator narrates their own story to the reader/listener on purpose. I've found a few lists on other websites citing "The Secret History" (by Donna Tartt) as one that would also fit that criteria (?)

Do you know of other books like this? (I'll probably make a list here so any fictional book is welcome!!! - although I'll probably only try the fantasy/mystery ones)
