A collection of the pilot books for popular series, for those of us who love to follow a character's journey for as long as an author will let us! Some of the below series have heavily debated starting points and book read orders--in those cases the pilot was selected based on what seems to be the most popular approach.

Hey friends!
Did anyone here happen to order a Kobo directly from Rakuten during their Black Friday sales, and if so, have you gotten it? Or at the very least a shipping update? I ordered mine the morning of the 2nd and it’s been absolute crickets since then. The order tracker on their website still says that my order is being prepared. I know I’m being a bit impatient but I have a whole backlog of ebooks ready to go 🥹

How fast are you guys listening to audiobooks? It may just be the ADHD, but I almost always listen at 1.5x speed minimum if not 1.8x or 2x speed. And often if I think I don’t like a narrator, if I speed it up I do like them!

My favorite so far has been The Shining by Stephen King. Before that, I'd only read 11/22/63 and Carrie. I DNF'd 11/22/63 and Carrie was okay, but I felt the concept could have been better executed. Having read On Writing, I understand that he himself didn't emotionally connect with Carrie and that was probably what I felt was missing.
But The Shining...I finally understand why he's been crowned The King of Horror. It surprised me how gripping it was. I couldn't put it down.
The book I've been most looking forward to reading is The Possession of Alba Diaz by Isabel Cañas. She's one of my favorite authors. I pre-ordered her book as someone who is pretty strictly a library gal, because she's never steered me wrong before. Every book she's written has been a hit for me. But I haven't gotten to reading it! I keep waiting for the right moment!

Hey, how do y'all feel about footnotes in books?
Personally, I really don't like them. If I see a book has footnotes, I put it back in the shelf like it burned my hands 😅 I feel like it breaks the flow of the reading every time I have to pause to go find the appropriate footnote. It pulls me out of the story and I read slower because of it.
In fact, footnotes are the sole reason I haven't read Babel yet 🫣
But, I am curious to see the other perspective. If you do like footnotes, why? Let me know your thinking 👀
