    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Read it because I was excited at the prospect of a lesbian romance novel that had two Asian FMCs and was set in an Emergency Room. Imagine my surprise to discover that the cover art is very misleading as our FMCs are both white women, which is the most frustrating part of it all, and that barely any of the actual story itself occurs within said ER.

This book is gut wrenching to read. As an indigenous, even more so. I am by turns sickened and enraged, and I have to keep pausing to read one of my other books for a bit. Having said that, it is long past time for historians to make these facts public. They’ve been glossed over for far too long, and I find myself grateful that Stannard’s outrage led him to write this book. I can only imagine how difficult it was to research it.

I’m wondering if the author regrets the Tesla product placement now? I’m generally not a fan of product placement, as it can seriously date a work. Unless the point of the work is really about that time period, written after the fact. I know many romances seem to be here today and gone tomorrow (at least at my public library, they are), but you never know when one will hit the jackpot and resonate with a larger number of readers, and have the potential for staying power. I don’t like it when writers sell themselves short, especially in romance, which already faces a lot of stigma.
