If Sweet Sorrows was whimsical and fun, Fortune and Fables is fragmented and delirious…
Do I understand what the Merchant and Collector are doing? No. Do I understand what anything is doing? Also no. Am I continuing anyway? Against my will and also completely willingly, yes.
There’s something about this section that makes it feel like the book has stopped holding my hand and started gently pushing me down a hallway full of symbolic doors while whispering “you’ll figure it out later. Open that one, no not that one, that one.”
Spoiler: I will not figure it out later.
That being said, i’m still not sure where this is going, but I do know I’m having a really good time being slightly lost in it.
How am I only 31% innnnnnn??????

A cute story about a Fighter who just wants to make scones and a Dark Lord who just wants to eat scones finding love and healing trauma in a world full of magic and paperwork.

Wow! That ending…way to cliffhanger! I really enjoyed the storytelling and character development. Jane was a great character and I really, really love that she worked so hard but didn’t become an amazing warrior overnight - she improved as much as someone training for 3 months might. Logical! It made her so much more tangible and relatable. Reagan was also a well written character. He has flaws but he isn’t some spoilt shadow daddy with no respect, and he isn’t 1000 years old, he is 25, with trauma to spare. I did pick quite a lot of the plot directions, still loved them, but the ending threw me some curveballs and I loved it!
