I fear my expectations might've been too high :( Found it quite hard to get into & I'm not loving either of our main characters. Curious to see where it'll go still but I'm not as enamored as I was when I read Tress (something, something, comparison is the thief of...? 😅)

After almost no reading in 2024, I'm really getting back into it this year but I'm struggling big time sticking with nonfiction, even though I have always enjoyed reading theory. I want to slowly work through my nonfiction shelves and I've noticed the best way to get to it is to buddy read and chat about the nonfiction I'm reading with other people. Anyone interested in picking up some book with me? :) Here is a selection of what I have ahead of me: Tithi Bhattacharya - Social Reproduction Theory Laura Miles - Transgender Resistance Rox Samer - lesbian potentiality & feminist media in the 1970s Silvia Federici - Caliban and the Witch (I would read this one in german, but happy to chat about it in english ofc!) Not necessarily looking for an academia-worthy discussion, since some of these topics are newer to me as well, but even just low stakes chatting about what I've read often helps both motivate me and understand more/have it stick in my memory. I'm imagining a chapter by chapter buddy read where we are open to take as much time as we need (though for me personally deadlines are helpful). Anyone interested? :)

I'd love to know what some of your favorite epic/high fantasy series are 🤗. I'm talking series you can't stop thinking about and that equally ripped out your heart and filled you with all the warm feelings. Give me a tall dark cup of all of the grimdark reads, full to the brim of action, tragedy, mythical creatures, betrayal, love and the like. For me, it's a tie between John Gwynne's Faithful and the Fallen and Ryan Cahill's Bound and the Broken 🙌🏾. I love them dearly, but I also lost a some years off my life in the process 😂

Curious what others think.. do you count a book you have DNF'd as read on your year goals? I know some who do and some who don't. I'm on the doesn't count side. If you count it as read.. why? Honestly just curious!

The way Haynes jumps between characters/settings is interesting. So far I find it fun and think it's keeping me more engaged, but I wonder if as I get deeper into the story I'll start to find it bothersome. I really enjoyed the chapter Sthenno and loved the setup of the Gorgons!

Somehow I can't get into the story. It's so slow and somehow I'm not interested at all. I hope it'll pick up soon!

I thought it would be kind of fun to see where in the world people are, and then folks can make friends with people from the same countries/ares (if they way, not pressure obviously). I'll go first. I'm Canadian, and more specifically I am in British Columbia (Vancouver Island if you want to get fancy. Try to find your country and join that thread! Everyone else?
