i do not mean that a book has something you hate, but you are reading a book and an author does something (like write in a certain way or chose a particular name etc) that gives you the ick and you are no longer into the book

I just took 4 pages of notes after reading the first history portion of this chapter. I am sure there is more to come. I now DO feel I have an understanding, but jeeeeeeeez so many names of people, names of countries, names of cities, names of swords, names of towers, changed names of towers…
Frankly, it’s too specific! Hahahahaha i know this is not a new thought, but I needed to share hahaha. Very much enjoying it now that I think I understand what is even being said, but the barrier for entry of understanding is vast.

Gandalf calling the dwarves a few at a time makes me imagine them all falling out of a clown car as Beorn watches in surprise

I know that the saying is “Don’t judge a book by its cover” but sometimes I find a copy whose cover is so ugly or boring. Even if it’s a book I want to read.
For example, earlier today I saw a copy of Jane Eyre at the thrift store, but I found the cover so boring that I put it back.
Does that make me a superficial reader?

Andy Serkis’s narration is so amazing!! The pacing is fantastic, he really gets the humor and whimsy of the book. And I absolutely love his Bilbo and Thorin voices. Just got to ‘Riddles in the dark’ and I’m 100% nerding out over hearing his Gollum voice as well 😆

I'm intrigued to know what drew everyone to their selected Avatar? When I initially signed up I picked the little witch reading, as I thought she was cute. However, when I noticed the croissant reading I immediately changed it. If I could be reincarnated as a little French pastry who could read and wear very cute hats then that is the life I would choose!! Did other people select them because the Avatar spoke to a particular genre then enjoy? ... Whatever the reason I'd love to hear!!
