This book reads like someone is trying really hard to be profound. I don’t like that each chapter ends with a “quotable” line. Probably won’t finish it.

The start dragged on a little, but the ending was good and honestly depressed me, lol.

The Renegade made me feel physically uneasy 😫 Jackson is so good at highlighting how terrifying societal pressure can be and how much violence is accepted/normalised by regular people. Such an amazing writer!

It's really hard for me to rate this book. On the one hand, I do share Bernie's views and it was fun and informative (because he did provide solutions) reading him fuming over murrica'a uber-capitalism, but on the other hand - oh was it painful to notice how chaotic and repetitive this... essay? memoir? text is. love bernie, the book not so much.

Horrendous people doing disgusting things!!! Super hard read, so don’t read if you’re squeamish. I was intrigued by the concepts the author was exploring, but I took FOREVER to finish because something nasty would happen every two pages or so. I liked that the characters, although perverse and sometimes straight up diabolical, had complicated relationships and pasts that made their horribleness make some sense. You feel bad about how terrible their lives have played out but still disgusted by the choices they make.
