Strangeness's Book Journey

This novel deals with horror of reality, as well as a haunted house that people disappear into. I love a house as character and this book has that. This is very heavy book as deals with Nakba and continuing occupation of the Palestine. Though, the book takes place in 2002 and I think this choice was due to the age of the characters.

It's written very beautiful, over three generations of a family. It's deals with generational trauma so well. The grandmother never talked about the details of her trauma, yet still effects her grandchild. The relationships between mother and draughters. The relationships between woman is vital part of the novel.

It is a very heavy book, I struggled to get into, despite being invested. Often books are escape from reality, while this was confrontation of it. The Nakba always makes me feel sick because it reflects the worse of humanity, that people have experienced something so terrible, can then do the same thing to someone else. Yes, this book is heavy, but I would say not to be scared away from it. Be prepared for it.

In terms of horror, it's done very well. It's very descriptive, emotional book. There were tense moments and it's one of the few revenge hauntings that I buy.

Overall, I give this book 5/5 stars for Salt Gains. It's hard to talk about the good art than it is bad, I feel like my review should be long. But all I can really say is to read this book and keep engaging with Palestine.

I received this book off of Netgalley for an honest review.
