I read this as a young adult and enjoyed the story, and imagery, rereading it now as an adult it was just ok. The imagery is still there however found myself at the end of the book questioning tropes and stereotypes I was coming across; doesn’t pass the Bechdel test.

Required reading, “Inka’s” experience wrenched my heart particularly, took me around 6 months to digest this book, the detailed recounts are harrowing. Well written historical document that is also a resource providing the context for how humans, especially women, are able to muster courageousness during the worst of times, and highlights, together is how we always survive.

Creepy crawling vines, sentient mushrooms, or a killer forest; no matter what shape they take, plants and fungi play a main part in these horror novels.

The idea of an advent book is genius, I enjoyed ripping open each chapter and I’m in love with that experience. However the book itself was just ok for me. I found the story to be slow paced and idealistic, yet tasteful for YA. Wished the book had made a note it was translated from French, left me with questions such as, who translated it? Why was no credit or mention given anywhere on the book?

Excellent YA story, strong female mcs, teamwork, dragons, enchanted forests, this was a fun reread from my youth. Cimorene is exactly the type of princess I looked up to, independent, willful in the best way, someone to look up to.
