  • Conflicted book ratings

What do y'all do when you're not sure how to rate a book? I finished Tender is the Flesh and have no idea how to rate it. Every moment of that book made me uncomfortable and nauseous... But that was kinda the whole point. The author definitely achieved what she set out to do and got her points across very well, and it invoked many emotions, so in that case I would give it 5 stars... However, I did not enjoy a single moment of reading that book and only continued out of a deep need to know what happens next (another sign of a good book), so it would feel weird to give it a high rating. Usually I'm good with horror, but this was something special.

Do many other people feel this way about certain books and how do y'all go about critiquing/rating books like this. Do you rate things more on the writing itself/the messages delivered, or more on the pure emotions experienced while reading?

  • What is the one book you would recommend to anyone and everyone?

I want to try making a personal list of books to read that have at least one diehard fan. I'm looking for the book that you bring up when someone says they want to get back into reading. The one you don't think ever gets enough attention because something else in that genre became popular. The one where people say "that was a book?" after discovering a movie or tv show they enjoyed was based on a novel.

My list starts with Howls Moving Castle, my own personal choice, that I have actually recommended to anyone asking.

  • non-fiction book recommendations

    hi pagebound friends!

i am making more of an effort to read non-fiction this year, which has been relatively successful (yay!), but i did want to know if there are any non-fiction books that people would recommend.

i'm currently reading perfect victims and the politics of appeal by mohammed el-kurd, which is brilliant so far. of the other non-fiction books i've read this year, i have also thoroughly enjoyed the fire next time by james baldwin! i'd like to know what other non-fiction books people have read and loved, and hopefully it'll introduce me to a whole new world of non-fiction i would never have thought to try.

i don't mind whatever genre of non-fiction book you would recommend, though i am personally not a huge fan of self-help books (the ones like atomic habits i simply don't enjoy). #please come talk to me about it because there are so many and i have no idea where to start !!!

  • Audiobook Performance Recommendations!!

Hello pagebound!! I want to hear your recommendations on the best audiobook performances. I don’t care the genre, I just want to experience some great audiobooks. I need to stop listening to the same music over and over again at work and instead expand my literary experience! For me, I will always recommend Andy Serkis narrating the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is just chefs kiss

  • WWW Wednesday

tbh I can hardly believe it's Wednesday again, the last week just flew by for me!! As we circle back to hump day, I'm here again with my three weekly "w" questions:

    1. What are you currently reading?
    2. What have you recently finished reading?
    3. What will you read next?

Sound off, and read what others have said about their reads, too - you may find some new friends with similar taste to yours!
