When I was reading The Hobbit, I would breeze through 30 pages in less than 30 minutes; when I read the Lord of the Rings, I would average 15 pages every 30 minutes; reading the Silmarillion, I am averaging maybe 5–7 pages every 30 minutes. Part of that is because I make notes about every new character to remember who they are, which eats up a lot of time, but it's still jarring to me just how slowly I am progressing through this book. Tolkien packed so much information into The Silmarillion, it's honestly incredible.

STELLAR writing, great concept and the first half was so so good. Lord Incel had some of the best lines I’ve ever read, but unfortunately the book lost me in the last half. I can’t even really say why, I just got… a little bit bored? It’s still a good book though and I kinda want to read the uncensored, gayer version now.

I want to love the Silmarillion (I'm loving it so far!), so I've prepared my Notion to take notes throughout my first time reading so I don't get confused. Already I have a decent amount in each of these three sections, and I'm only 4 pages into the actual content of the book 😅

What is there to be said about J.R.R. Tolkien that hasn't already been said? I already know I will never again be so lucky as to read anything as beautiful as the Lord of the Rings in my lifetime.

I admittedly watched the movies before reading the books, so my expectations were already sky-high, but Tolkien surpassed those expectations with flying colors. Never have I felt so immersed in a fictional world as I did in Middle-Earth. Tolkien's prose paints such a vivid picture of Middle-Earth that even I, someone who struggles to picture words in her mind, never for a second felt as if I could not picture the scene I was reading at any given moment.

And the characters—people really do not give Frodo enough credit. Sure, he does not follow a typical hero's journey like someone like Aragorn does, but the Lord of the Rings would not exist without Frodo. Frodo was never meant to be an ultra-heroic protagonist—he was meant to represent the everyman. If Frodo followed the typical hero's journey, he would no longer be Frodo.

There is no perfect way for me to summarize all of the emotions I feel now that I have finished the Lord of the Rings, so I'm just going to end this review with a quote that encapsulates these feelings quite well:

“I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil.”

What do you mean they based an entire movie (War of the Rohirrim) off of TWO PAGES OF THE APPENDICES 😭 AND HERA DOESN’T EVEN EXIST IN THEM SHE’S JUST FULLY MADE UP?? I know it was just New Line Cinema’s way of clinging onto film rights for LoTR but come on guys…
