if i ever make myself read such a pointlessly misogynistic, male-power-fantasy ridden book ever again, i‘ll be sorry.
the plot drags, most of the characters suck, and the fiesty woman who spends the whole book asserting her position against her male counterpart becomes a tradwife in the literal blink of an eye because she telepathically read his mind and realised she was inferior to him in every way.
being a woman in the 70s must have been a fucking nightmare

Really nice art but the characters talked like npcs 💀 but also I didn't realise it was a dc comic and I don't usually enjoy superhero comics that much soo...

This book is one part Emily Dickinson biography, one part history of the fight for ownership of her poems. Emily feels a little distant. Her deaths comes at the halfway point, and the rest of the book chronicles the multi-generational, decades long feud, which started as an adulterous affair and ended up being about control of Emily’s poems and reputation.
Gordon absolutely demolishes any romantic ideas I had about the intriguing Master Letters. She also makes a very compelling argument that Emily was an epileptic.
This book is strongest in its explanation of the events which crafted Emily's posthumous legacy, and the origins of popular mythos surrounding her persona.

I love small books like this, the good ones are usually bigger on the inside.

I was a bit disappointed that this sequel makes it seem like the first book never happened, especially since Meg lost all her character development which was irritating. I really enjoy the imagination and scale of these books and the way everything is explained but again there were a few things that really annoyed me.
