The Mad Wife

The Mad Wife

Meagan Church

From bestselling author Meagan Church comes a haunting exploration of identity, motherhood, and the suffocating grip of societal expectations that will leave you questioning the lives we build―and the lies we live.  They called it hysteria. She called it survival. Lulu Mayfield has spent the last five years molding herself into the perfect 1950s housewife. Despite the tragic memories that haunt her and the weight of exhausting expectations, she keeps her husband happy, her household running, and her gelatin salads the talk of the neighborhood. But after she gives birth to her second child, Lulu's carefully crafted life begins to unravel. When a new neighbor, Bitsy, moves in, Lulu suspects that something darker lurks behind the woman's constant smile. As her fixation on Bitsy deepens, Lulu is drawn into a web of unsettling truths that threaten to expose the cracks in her own life. The more she uncovers about Bitsy, the more she questions everything she thought she knew―and soon, others begin questioning her sanity. But is Lulu truly losing her mind? Or is she on the verge of discovering a reality too terrifying to accept? In the vein of The Bell Jar and The Hours, The Mad Wife weaves domestic drama with psychological suspense, so poignant and immersive, you won't want to put it down.

I couldn’t put down First to finish and ended up reading it in a single day. From the start I felt drawn to the story and lost track of time. It was fast paced and had a good amount of spice without taking away from the actual plot. My favorite scene was the music festival which felt so heartwarming and I could visualize it so well. I also loved how I could feel the anticipation building up during the world championship. The characters were amazing and I especially loved their friendships. The only critique I have is it felt slightly flat and the story would’ve been stronger with more moments between the two main characters. Overall this was such a fun read and I’m excited to read more books in this series! Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Mr. Disappear was a hard read for me to get into and the pacing felt slow at times. I found myself skimming through lots of details that didn’t feel necessary for the story. The multiple povs were interesting but felt confusing at times. The characters were fine but I didn’t feel connected to them. I really appreciated Liz’s character who showed the struggle of postpartum depression. It felt realistic and highlights that motherhood is not always filled with happiness. Overall it was a decent read but wasn’t the right fit for me. Thank you NetGalley, Crown Publishing and Virginia Trench for this eARC.

Find My Way Down to You was such an easy, wholesome read. I don’t usually love YA or fantasy, but this had me hooked from the start. August and Cary were so sweet and had me smiling. I got attached to them which doesn’t happen often. Even the side characters were fun to read about and I loved their personalities. The world and fantasy elements were so cool without being to much and the cover is absolutely stunning! The ending was not what i expected and I wasn’t sure how I felt at first but I ended up loving how it came together in the end. Overall it was such a good read and I enjoyed it so much!

Thank you NetGalley, Viking Books, Penguin and Julian Winters for this eARC.

╰┈➤ˎˊ˗ This book had a rough start and was chaotic from the start. A lot of things were happening and the story never felt dull. Mo was a silly character but she was also a little annoying and embarrassing. Her choices and relationship drama weren’t for me. The only thing I really cared about was Mo and Tasha. I was so invested in their relationship and wanted more. The ending was definitely unexpected and still not sure how I feel. ⭐️ 𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬/𝐪𝐮𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬:

➛⋆˚࿔ 🕊️ 𝐌𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: the couple had no chemistry and felt so random. The FMC drove me crazy trying to be different from other girls in such a bad way. I felt zero connection to any of the characters and when the third act breakup happened i genuinely did not even care if they ended up together. She decides to stay forever with a man she has know for like 3 months? Right.. The ending was the worst part of this whole book. He literally and I quote saids “Daddy’s home.” Absolutely cringey.

╰┈➤ˎˊ˗This book was really good and I enjoyed reading. It was so funny and had a fast paced plot which I loved. The characters were fun and likable(most of them.) I’m not a fan of second chance romance but this book was actually good and the chemistry between them was strong. I will say this book has some darker themes but they work well.(There’s nothing bad about this book it just didn’t feel like five stars.) ⭐️ 𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬/𝐪𝐮𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬: “You’re all I want. Need.”

    Vera Kurian

SIX CLASSMATES. ONE TERRIFYING NIGHT. A MURDER TWENTY YEARS IN THE MAKING… There’s something sinister under the surface of the idyllic, suburban town of Wesley Falls, and it’s not just the abandoned coal mine that lies beneath it. The summer of 1995 kicks off with a party in the mine where six high school students witness a horrifying crime that changes the course of their lives. The six couldn’t be more different. • Maddy, a devout member of the local megachurch • Kelly, the bookworm next door • James, a cynical burnout • Casey, a loveable football player • Padma, the shy straight-A student • Jia, who’s starting to see visions she can’t explain When they realize that they can’t trust anyone but each other, they begin to investigate what happened on their own. As tensions escalate in town to a breaking point, the six make a vow of silence, bury all their evidence, and promise to never contact each other again. Their plan works – almost. Twenty years later, Jia calls them all back to Wesley Falls—Maddy has been murdered, and they are the only ones who can uncover why. But to end things, they have to return to the mine one last time.
